Theme Verse for Apologetics

We want to frame our discussion of Apologetics by using one of the main verses that exhorts believers to be ready to defend their faith in a gentle and respectful manner.

1 Peter 3:15b says:
“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect”

The Greek word for "given an answer" in the above verse is απολογιαν (apologian). This is the same word root used for that culture's equivalent of the type of defense an attorney would make for the accused in the court of law.

Even though the word apologia is at the same root etymologically as apology, don't think of apologetics as apologizing for our Christian belief. What we mean is that we give reasonable answers for others to understand why we believe what we believe. Our belief system is not just internally coherent (that is, it makes sense within its own system) but it also corresponds to how life really is. We'll develop this thought more later on.

Remember to post your thoughts and opinions on this post or any others coming up! Also, please let me know if I use words you don't understand. I've tried to provide hyper-links to terms that aren't in ordinary English. However, that doesn't mean I might overlook something.
